Cataract disease is caused around 50% of the blindness and 33% of poor eyesight cases globally. It occurs at a rate of 10-40 per 100,000 children in development countries, and at a rate of 1-4 per 100,000 children in advanced countries as well as it is more likely to occur with old age.
Africa records the highest number of cataract cases in the world, with about 33 million people waiting for undergoing cataract surgery. In addition, about 19,000 children get injured with cataract in Africa annually.
DirectAid continuously launches new eye care camps in many poor and remote areas in Africa, where recovering from such disease has a very positive impact on changing people life. It changes them from people are unable to work to people are able to work and support their families and communities.
