As part of its commitment to improving children’s quality of life and enhancing their educational opportunities, “Direct Aid” has launched a pioneering medical program for vision screening, benefiting 17,000 students in schools across Nyamagabe District, Rwanda.

The program targeted students in primary, middle, and secondary schools, aiming to detect vision problems early. It was implemented in collaboration with the local organization “RIIO,” specializing in ophthalmology, ensuring that students received advanced medical services.

Program Objectives:

  • Improving Educational Performance: Helping students with vision impairments to focus better on their studies.
  • Promoting Public Health: Early detection and prevention of vision problems to protect children from long-term complications.
  • Strengthening Local Partnerships: Collaborating with the Ministry of Health and local organizations to ensure the program’s sustainable health and social impact.

Key Outcomes:

  • The program successfully completed vision screening for 17,000 students within two months.
  • Medical glasses and treatment recommendations were provided to many students, significantly improving their daily lives.
  • Official bodies and UNICEF commended “Direct Aid” for the initiative, urging other organizations to adopt its approach to sustainable health interventions.

A participating doctor stated, “The program was truly remarkable. Despite the challenges we faced, the final results reflected the quality of planning and execution.”
