The founding doctor Abdulrahman Alsumait, may God have mercy on him, once said, “We care about education, because I cried and was hurt when I learned that there is not a single Muslim graduate in the state of Malawi! Where people called a Muslim an incompetent person.”
Direct Aid’s educational projects aim to achieve empowerment for African communities, as education helps eliminate ignorance, poverty, and unemployment, and accelerates the pace of countries’ advancement and development. Just as Direct Aid was interested in all stages of public education from the beginning of kindergarten to secondary education, it was also interested in establishing and managing universities. So the association now owns 4 universities in Kenya, Somalia, Tanzania and Zanzibar, in addition to a fifth university under construction. The programs implemented by the association are diverse to contribute to the development of these universities, and one of its most important programs is providing scholarships to outstanding and needy students. During the year 2023, the association provided 1,695 university scholarships, covering various specializations between medicine, engineering, administrative and legal sciences, educational sciences, and others in 25 African countries.
