DirectAid participates in a special roundtable for UN Kuwait about the humanitarian situation in Somalia

DirectAid Society represented in its general director, Dr. Abdullah Abdulrahman Alsumait, participated in a special roundtable session about the humanitarian situation in Somalia at the United Nations office (UN) in the State of Kuwait in a response of their official invitation.

In this context, various officials characters have participated in such roundtable include, the deputy of local representative of the general secretary of the UN, Mr. Adam Abdelmawla, and the resident coordinator in Somalia and the representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the State of Kuwait, Dr. Samer Haddadin and Ms. Heidiko Hadzialesh, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Before such gathering, a professional team from the UN had visited DirectAid Society at its head office in Kuwait to have a deep look on its various activities and programs in Somalia and Africa in general.

Fortunately, DirectAid Society has been working in Somalia since 1986, and it is considered one of the largest humanitarian institutions working in the field of education in Somalia. This is because it built the first university in Somalia with a comprehensive educational hospital. In addition to building and managing 12 primary, secondary and high school with more than 15,000 male and female students. DirectAid also conducted relief and health projects in Somalia to provide critical medical services for the disadvantages communities and established 2,850 development projects. Totally, DirectAid since 1986 spent on educational, health and development projects around 63 million US dollars.

It is worth noting that, DirectAid is a member of the advisory council of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). DirectAid also has a strategic partnership with the UN and its humanitarian agencies.
