70 surgical eye camps provide free therapeutic services annually

As part of the Direct Aid Society’s efforts to combat blindness in Africa, as part of its various health projects aimed at developing human life in remote villages that do not have access to basic health care, Direct Aid Society continues to implement the Laayoune camps, and this month it launched two eye camps in Sudan and Yemen to begin with.

The implementation of the camps of the eyes, which he collected on the night of 27 Ramadan and chose the name “light of help” to reflect the qualitative leap in the lives of each patient when he moves by the grace of God and then the impact of this camp from the darkness of the light to see what is around. This participation is part of the Direct Aid Commitment of the African Blind Union, through which we aim to implement 30,000 eye operations until 2023.

Direct Aid collaborates to achieve this goal with several volunteer medical teams, including the Eye of the World team and the Al Basr Foundation. The establishment and management of direct aid to two eye hospitals in Niger, Chad and health centers in all countries to implement these operations, in addition to coordination with the ministries of health in the targeted countries to use their facilities. The last camp in Chad was one of the largest eye camps carried out by Direct Aid. During the camp, 15,000 references were examined, eye correction and cataract removal was performed for more than 3,000 patients. It is worth mentioning that direct aid began implementing the camps in Laayoune since 1991, and the completion of the camp at that time does not exceed 200 operations in one camp and has now reached more than 800 operations in one camp.

More than 70 eye camps are currently being implemented in one year in many African countries and Yemen.
