Graduating the 20th batch at Alsumait University in Zanzibar
The lack of skilled labor in most African countries has made DirectAid to target establishing several universities in Africa in order to address many problems of ignorance, poverty and unemployment as well as developing the poor and remote societies in Africa. DirectAid so far has built four universities, and they are running efficiently and there is another university is under construction.
In this context, Alsumait University in Zanzibar was the first DirectAid University in Africa, it was established in 1998. The university has 26 academic programs in several different specializations include sciences, mathematics and computer science programs. In addition to Shari’ah studies, Arabic language, psychology and social studies. The university also includes a department for linguistics and education. In 2021, the university graduated the 20th batch of 200 students, to reach totally 4,183 graduated male and female students. It is noteworthy that many of university graduate students have appointed in high positions in Zanzibar. Recently, in January 2021 the university was much honored to announce that one of its graduates was appointed as Minister of Water, Energy and Minerals in Zanzibar.
