Direct Aid Society concluded its campaign to drill 1,500 wells, in which more than 69,000 donors participated in a cost of KD 5,000,000
The campaign aims to drill wells in areas suffering from severe drought, widespread water-borne diseases and contaminated water such as cholera, hepatitis, typhoid, malaria and other diseases, as well as cause death to 25% of those who drink it. Because children are busy bringing water daily for more than 6 km per day, 49% of children fail to attend school. These facts are the main reason for spreading ignorance, poverty and disease across the continent.
Dr. Abdullah Abdulrahman Al-Sumait, Director General of the Direct Aid Society, said that “#1000_wells campaign is a humanitarian campaign adopted by a group of young Kuwaitis to start a field visit to Niger state to see the conditions of the villages affected by lack of drinking water, as well as documenting the opening of wells projects implemented by Direct Aid Society recently, which led to the interaction of Kuwaiti society and many followers around the world with the live broadcast of events from the field, which confirmed Direct Aid’s transparency and success to fulfill its commitments to projects’ donors and was a major reason for the campaign to gain the confidence of donors around the world”
The Undersecretary of the Social Development Sector, Assistant in the Ministry of Affairs “Hanaa Al-Hajri”, said in her statement that the ministry supports charitable work and its sponsors and charitable societies that are committed to the law and decisions organizing it; stressing that the ministry approved Direct Aid Society’s project to drill (a thousand water wells), which is estimated to benefit more than one million people. In light of Society’s honorable history in charitable work and its founder Dr. AbdulRahman al-Sumait, lovers of charity rush to donate immediately after the launch of the campaign on Society’s website ”
Al-Hajri explained that “what happened was a proof of donor’s trust in Direct Aid Society and its founder Dr. Al-Sumait, may Allah have mercy on him”.
Dr. Abdullah Al Sumait explained that the campaign preceded by the publication of a list contains wells number, specifications and number of beneficiaries to all media, as well as explain campaign steps and the mechanism of donation and contribute to achieve transparency, which Direct Aid is always keen to adhere to it; stressing that the launch of charity campaigns from Kuwait is a source of pride, and one of the main reasons to consolidate the leading humanitarian role of Kuwait among the countries of the world, which reached hundreds of millions of needy around the world.
